BOGO gift cards at the Melting Pot
Right now the Melting Pot is having two promotions and I apologize for not telling you about the first one sooner as it is ending tomorrow. For every $10 you donate to St. Jude's hospital you will get a $20 gift card. We donated $100 and got $200 in gift cards to use later. The Melting Pot in Addison assures us that we can use all gift cards together. We plan on using these and another gift card that we have to take my family out for a nice dining experience when they visit for Christmas.
The other promotion is buy a $100 gift card and get (4) $25 bonus gift certificates to be used in 4 separate visits for yourself or to give to someone.
Check their site or store for more details.
You might want to check out this blog for more restaurants that offer extra/free gift cards when you purchase a gift card.
Today's Groupon is Strikz
Check out today's Groupon at Strikz Entertainment in Frisco. It includes 3 game of bowling including shoe rental, $5 game card and 4 hours of video game play including laser tag for $19.00.
Hurry and grab this Groupon that is only available until tonight. If you purchase one then it will expire 6/9/2010. You could even buy several and do a fancy birthday party for your child between now and June.

Pei We Entree 25%off - December 2nd
Our Black Friday purchases
We weren't really looking for very many items since I did most of my kids Christmas shopping at Target in July when toys were 75% off. (see here). My husband got the Radio Flyer Big Flyer at Walmart for $30 (normally $62-$92). He got 4 cordless phones for $50.00 and 20 FREE AA batteries from Staples. He went to two Best Buys and found the Toshiba 4 GB laptop computer with FREE printer and carrying case for $500. He also went to Sam's club and purchased a wireless printer. Later in the day we returned it.
Then to top off the day, we realized our couches downstairs were 12 years old and really shabby so we purchased a couch and love seat at Ashley Furniture. They were less than $1,000 with a warranty and delivery. I would say we did our part to stimulate the economy.

Glade Candle Deal at Target continues
The top coupon is $2.00 off of TWO Glade scented candle products (They are found inside the holiday glass refillable candle holder. You might also have a $1.50 off of ONE glade candle holder or tin coupon which was found in the tins of the non-holiday scents.
The middle coupon was found in 10/1/09 Smart Source section of Sunday's newspaper. (I think)
The bottom coupon was found at a Smart Source blinkie machine at Kroger (I took five to do my deal). The blinkie machines are the ones that you can find around grocery stores that blink a red light then spit out a coupon for you.
There is also a printable coupon available here.
Buy 5 Holiday Scented Oil Candle holders (tins or decorative glass holder) $2.50 each
Buy 5 Apple Cinnamon or Bayberry Spice Scented oil candle refills $2.50 each
(Make sure you use the Price scanners found around the store. When you scan the item it should say $5.00 gift card beside the price, if it doesn't then it is not included)
Total= $25.00
Use (5) Buy Any Glade scented oil candles holder, and get a refill pack FREE coupon
-$12.50
Use (5) Save $1.50 on any Glade candle holder
-$7.50
or
(2) Save $2.00 on Two glade scented oil products and (1) $1.50 off of 1 scented oil holder
-$5.50
Pay $5.00 or $7.00, but get TWO $5.00 gift cards
End up with an overage of $5.00 or $3.00
You can then submit for $5.00 SC Johnson Rebates. You have to use original receipts so if you want to take advantage of the family limit of 3 rebates per household then you need to ask for multiple copies of the original receipts. I have gotten two with the managers help. I don't think they can do more than two at the checkout area.
Here is a pic of some of my loot from a couple of shopping trips.
I wanted to add that I was given a hard time over this by one manager at Target. She kept explaining to me that the one coupon for buy one get one free was a coupon to be used for the two items. The cashier was very rude and the manager was not helpful. There is no such rule listed in their Corporate coupon policy. I would love to see it in writing if they do have such a rule. I had the whole transaction voided and said forget it eventually. Let's just say that I was not the quiet, subdued, soft spoken person I normally am. I have never had such hard time before....there were several things that the cashier was fussing about, not just the glade deal. So, just a warning to others that you might be given a hard time. Try going to customer service. They usually know what to do with problems.

Few helpful hints for the beginning couponer
I would consider myself a beginning couponer but trying to learn quickly. I wanted to share some helpful hints I have learned recently.
These are several of the most popular websites for printing coupons:
Coupons.com
This is a great site to print coupons. There is a limit per print per computer and also a total print limit for each coupon available. Coupons limits get reset throughout the month and everything is reset on the first of each month. You need to put in your zip code for the town you live. For whatever reason, if you put in the zip code for Beverly Hills (90210) there seems to be better coupons...try it for yourself.
Redplum.com and SmartSource.com are both good sites to print coupons on your home printer.
Proctor and Gamble.com
This is a site you need to register for but you get coupons and free samples in the mail. You can also register your Kroger plus shopper's card and your Tom Thumb Reward card with P&G. By doing this, you will be able to utilize the P&G eSAVER. You may choose your own coupons to load onto your grocery store card and also print a list of the items you choose for your shopping trip (these seem to have a two month expiration date).
AllYou.com
All You is a magazine that you can subscribe to or can purchase at Walmart. There is frequently $70.00-$90.00 worth of coupons. Their website also has printable coupons available.
These sites are useful for clipless coupons:
Upromise.com
We actually signed up with Upromise as one of the ways to save for college over four years ago when we had our first child. We have close to $2,000 in our Upromise account without doing anything special...just shopping with our credit card. Check out the site if you haven't done so already. You can load coupons on your Upromise credit card and the amount is not saved on the item but put into your account instead. Many popular retail online shops give a percentage of the total amount purchased towards your Upromise account.
*A really helpful hint that I recently learned:* If you are are on a blog or site that takes you straight to something that has a button for a coupon for a specific product then after the first coupon prints make sure you press the back button then refresh button and it should automatically print another coupon for you. This was especially helpful recently when Smithfield bacon was on sale for 2 for $6.00. I had (2) $3.00 Q and I was able to get both packages for FREE at Tom Thumb!
A friend of mine said she recently got a virus on her computer when she went to a site to print coupons. We have not any problems with viruses. It would be a good idea to have your virus protection software up-to-date just in case.
It is a good idea to learn from my mistake and keep a file or sheet of paper with all of your login and password information. As you start signing up for more sites it gets harder to remember all of the passwords.
Let's all use our reusable shopping bags
CVS recently started their green bag tag system. You purchase a green bag tag from CVS for $0.99 and get it scanned whenever you come into the store. Every 4th time you are get your bag tag scanned, you earn a $1.00 Extra Care Buck towards a purchase. I wonder if you could also get them to scan it for drive through pick up of prescription drugs?
Target has printed on the bottom of their receipt “Save 5 cents every time you use a reusable bag.
Sprouts also has an incentive for using reusable shopping bags. You get $0.05 credit for each reusable shopping bag you use as well.
Does anyone know of any other stores that are giving a credit for reusable shopping bags?

Have you used your TGI Fridays burger coupon?
Our family went out to eat last night. I don't even remember the last time I ate at a TGI Fridays so the menu was unfamiliar to me. We ordered a pizza kids meal for the boys to split with fruit and an extra mixed fruit on the side. It was plenty for the two of them. I ordered the Jack Daniels Chicken sandwich and hubby ordered the Jack Daniels Burger. Mine came with an option of several sides and I got the salad. Hubby got the sweet potato fries. We both enjoyed them very much. It was a great dinner out and our total to pay was $6.68 plus tip. We would have spent more going to a fast food restaurant. Thanks Woody!
On our receipt there is a survey code and we will get a coupon for a free appetizer when we fill it out online.
If you want more freebies at TGI Fridays you can sign up for more stripes through Facebook here

I am back and ready to blog, few Target deals
Anyways, I got some good deals in the last week. I went back to Target last night to see what I could find. I think I am falling out-of-love with Target at the moment. After spotting my favorite cashier and starting the check out process, he called over the "trainer" (I found out it was the trainer's last night working at that store). Several items I was purchasing were not working with the coupons I was using. I know many others all over the country have had success with them. I ended up having the items removed from the transaction, pulling them out of my bags and getting my coupons back. I have never had such a hard time at Target before. Thank goodness I was alone and my children were not with me. That would have been a nightmare! My experience last night has turned me off with shopping at Target for a while.
Some decent deals at Target I found were:
$2.44 for a 7.8 oz Colgate Total Whitening paste with Free toothbrush package on end cap
I used $1.00 off MQ making it $1.44. Inside the box was $10.00 worth of Target coupons for more Colgate-Palmolive products. I can combine these with manufacturers coupons for some good deals or free items. The coupons don't expire until 12/31/2009.
3 Free bath Buddies by Johnson and Johnson. I used 3-$1.00 off MQs from newspaper.
(I plan on sending my receipt to Johnson and Johnson for a Free Elegant Baby Bath Toy Frog Set.)
$1.25 Market Pantry fruit snacks
$1.09 dozen eggs
$1.50 each for 8 oz block of cheese
$4.99 Jimmy Dean D-lights breakfast sandwiches (4-pack), used $1.00 MQ and $1.00 Target Q= $2.99 each.
$1.75 Chex Mix, used 1 $0.50 MQ and $1.00 Target Q= $0.25-$0.50 each
$4.49 Glade Reed infusers and large candles, used $3.00 off MQ= $1.50 each

Shop Smart Look Fab at Stonebriar Mall!
I got a separate deal where I showed my e-mailed confirmation number and the Shop Smart desk gave me a $10.00 gift card. I shopped at Sears and bought 2 jackets and 3 shirts for a total of $17.00! I used a $10.00 off a $10.00 purchase juniors department coupon. For my morning outing, I traded in my empty shampoo bottle for a FREE bottle of Fekkai shampoo. I used a coupon to get a FREE protein drink from GNC, picked up my FREE $10.00 mall gift card and got 5 tops/jackets for $17.00. Not too bad! Unfortunately, I left my stroller at the house so my 2-year old couldn't last any longer...otherwise I would have spent the $75.00 total using lots of other coupons/gift cards/deals that are available and picked up another $10.00 gift card.
For the readers that don't live locally, there are hundreds of malls participating this weekend in this promotion. I hope you can find one in your area. Check your zip code here.

I had a coupon for a FREE bag from the magazine All You Aug. or Sept. issue(found at Walmart) so I got two bags of the Chicken Jerky for FREE! The bag that you can get for free at Walmart is bigger but I prefer the two separate smaller sized bags.
See receipt below. I hear that it works the same way if you have a manufacturer's coupon for BOGO free and the store is having a sale on that item BOGO free....you get both for free and should not have to pay anything out of pocket.
Walgreens visit Sat. Sept. 12th
I sent hubby to Walgreens Saturday afternoon to grab a few things before last week's sale ended. He purchased in his first transaction:
Scrubbing bubbles Automatic Cleaner $9.99 ($5.00 MQ here)
Glade Sense and Spray $5.99 ($4.00 MQ here)
Two Chex Mix bags $0.99 (2-$0.50 MQ from newspaper)
Total= $8.54 OOP but also got $3.00 RR and $2.00 RR
Then in the second transaction, he purchased another Scrubbing Bubbles shower kit $9.99 ($5.00 MQ) and the 4-pack of Peanut Butter Twix for $0.42.
For those beginners, learn from our lesson. You cannot use a Register Reward from Walgreens on the same item that prompted the first Register Reward. Example....see above. When my hubby purchased the second Scrubbing bubbles and paid with the $3.00 Register Reward, the new $3.00 Register Reward did not print.
He paid a total of $2.61 for the second transaction. This is a lesson learned and we will be careful not to repeat this mistake again. In addition to this, we learned that you have to have a filler item when purchasing a special item on sale so that is why he had to buy the candy.

State Fair in Dallas Sept. 25th - October 18th
In addition, I found out through a recent e-mail that the Dallas Museum of Nature and Science will be having discounted admission prices during the dates of the State Fair. It will only cost $1 to get into each building (with admission to the State Fair) The museum is a stone's throw away from the front entrance of the Fair. There will also be extended hours at the museum of 10-6 daily. This museum is so much fun and downstairs is the Children's museum (ages 7 and under). If you haven't been to this museum yet, during the Fair might be a great time to try it!

Also, Restaurants.com has some good deals with coupon codes frequently. The restaurants in the North Dallas area are not that great but I found a really nice one in my parent's home town.
