Deals at Kroger 12-9

I used http://katycouponers.blogspot.com/2010/12/kroger-loving-this-mega-sale.html for most of my matchups this week. I also got the gatorade recover which was priced at $1.00 each and I had 3 tearpad coupons. I have extra rebate forms if any of my local friends want to do the keebler rebate deal. There was a blinkie machine right in front of the fudge shop cookies for$1.00 off of 2 boxes. Let me know if you have any questions after you take a peek at her blog.

Enjoying the Rebate Checks

Since it is almost halfway through the year I wanted to add up my rebate checks received since January and my total is...$114.57!!! I am also waiting for around $80.00 back in various rebates that are not included in this total.

This is the first full year I have been really searching for and participating in rebates. Most of the time I make a decent amount of money on the item because the rebate is on the price the store charges not the actual amount paid. In other words, the refund you will receive is the price before coupons or buy one get one free store sales or gift cards received back on a purchase at Target. I have found that the time it takes to fill out a rebate form is just minutes. Of course you have to factor in the cost of stamps for all of these rebates but it still ends up being a great way to save even more money in the long run.

I have a file folder system at my kitchen desk and put all receipts and forms in the folder as I shop and print rebate forms. Every week or so I try to fill them out and send them off. I make a dated copy of what I send off as a reminder and a record. When the check comes in the mail I throw the copy away and make a note of the check amount in the back of the file folder. It is a system that works for me!

Here is a great blog called My Brain is Inside Out by Queen. She seems to be the best with finding all of the rebates available around the blogosphere. Also you just have to keep a keen eye out while shopping. Look at all of the displays on the end caps and at the back of the stores and you might find some rebate forms. Recently I found a coupon packet on the Miller light beer stack at CVS and inside of it was a $10.00 rebate for a propane gas tank refill. Who doesn't need that in the middle of grilling out season?

Pet Smart Freebies

Excuse my messy car! In last week's Smart source (6-13?) there were save $3.00 on Science Diet dog treats coupons. They are priced at $2.50 at Pet Smart and depending on your cashier you could get overage on them to use towards another item. I purchased 6 bags of treats for free and got overage for some cat litter deodorizer. I do not have any dogs but donated them to the closest SPCA.
Also if you can find the trial size bags of Beneful dog food then you can use the $3.00 off coupon that states any size to get it free plus possible overage....depending on your cashier. I used these on a previous transaction and got 4 free bags and used the overage on a bag of cat food. I also donated the trial bags of dog food and the SPCA seemed very appreciative. They will give you a tax donation receipt if you would like one.
Thanks to Katy Couponers for the great tips!

Target deals this week 6-13-10

I am not going to post all of the deals but wanted to point you towards a site that does have some great deals listed here at Couponing 101.

I have had a great time this week shopping at Target. I went Friday, Sunday and Monday. Why so many times? Well, I wanted to get in on last week's deals and then Sunday had a new start of deals. I took notes while I was there on the food items on the end caps that were on clearance. There were so many things that were marked down 50% off. I am assuming it is due to the rearranging of the grocery section and they will not be restocking those items.

On Monday I came back to Target with my coupons that I found through searching the coupon database on the blog Common Sense with Money. I used my coupons on the clearance items and got some great deals. Here are the prices after coupons of some of the items I purchased. Each Target will vary on what types of clearance items are left.

$0.82 for Crystal light canister that makes 12 quarts
$0.30 each for Margarita and Pina Colada boxes of Jello mix
$0.98 for a 3 pack of Mentos gum
$0.34 for Simply Asia sweet and sour seasoning packet

In addition to the clearance, I did the Schick razor deal and there is a mail in rebate available for that item. I also got the Colgate pro for $1.00, the Eggo pancakes for $0.75, four packs of Vanish toilet drop-ins for 2.39 total (I forgot one of my Target coupons) and Ziplock containers for $0.27 per 2 or 4 pack.

Free Pool Testing kit

My Mom heard about this site, healthy pools.org and recommended I test our community pool. I sent off for a free test kit and will go back to their site to post my findings.

It looks like you will be testing for chlorine and pH. According to the site the CDC is recommending that patrons to the pool test with portable test strips before swimming. Unfortunately across the US the healthy vs. unhealthy pools seems to be around 50/50.

Not too bad for all of this.

I found out that the Gillette Fusion kits that are right beside the razors are the same price as the razors. That would have been a better deal. There were also $1.00 off Tyson individually frozen chicken bags

Dallas Morning News Subscribers!!

If you currently get the Dallas Morning Newspaper on Sunday only (or possibly other days like Wed/Sun), then you can sign up for the Dallas Morning News briefing edition for FREE.

I am so excited about this. Currently we pay 30% off the regular price for a Sunday newspaper to be delivered. Now, it is convenient to have it delivered but many times it comes way after we wake up. (We have some early risers at my house) While I was at Walgreen's last week DMNs was handing out a free Friday paper and letting people know about the briefing edition which they tell me is FREE. It is a small paper which has brief descriptions about news stories. It comes Wednesday through Saturday and includes sale ads and coupons! I got my first one today and it had 3 coupon sections in it!!!! Hurray for FREE coupons!

Go Here to sign up for yourself.

The holiday section was pretty picked over but there might still be some great deals if you plan ahead to next year.

The Start of a New Year and meal planning

It is the beginning of 2010 and I am going to be making some changes. We overspent during Christmas as always and to help with the saving of money I will be putting us on a serious budget. Many of my fellow bloggers in the couponing blogosphere are going to be participating in the "Eat up your pantry challenge". I will be joining them. I have inventoried my pantry and have made a meal plan up for the next week. I have also put us on a budget of $40.00 a week for groceries. This will be spent on dairy, egg, bread, produce and some meat.

My week of meals will not be gourmet nor super healthy. I want to try to eat up the things in our pantry and then start fresh with healthier foods.

Typically we all eat cheese toast, oatmeal or cereal for breakfast every morning. I am going to mix things up with apple cinnamon oatmeal pancakes, muffins and banana bread this week. I will be shopping at Sprouts for produce on Wednesday when they have double ad day to get the most bang for my buck.

I bought Oscar Meyer Turkey and Ham lunch meat from Target for $1.79 each so we will mostly be having sandwiches or leftovers from the previous night for lunch. I am also trying to loose 10 lbs so I will be having tuna sandwiches. I used coupons to get lots of the single serving tuna packets for free at Kroger in the past few months. I remember when I lost weight in the past that I enjoyed tuna mixed with a little fat free ranch dressing (I think it tastes better than fat free mayo), cracked pepper and a little bit of diced pickle. I toast it on a Oroweat multi-grain sandwich thin. The whole sandwich is only 200 calories and it is satisfying!

Jan 1st
B- Cereal and Oatmeal
L- Tuna or Turkey Sandwiches, apples and broccoli with dip
D- Steamfresh Asian style Chicken Vegetable Medley with extra vegetables added (water chesnuts and steamed brocolli)

Jan 2nd
B-Quaker Oatmeal Pancake mix made with Applesauce and cinnamon mix-in
L-Tuna or Turkey Sandwiches or Yaki Soba noodles for the kids
D- Ham and Bean Soup with a side of beer bread
(I have the ham and ham stock left over in the freezer from Christmas and we don't drink beer but have plenty of that left over as well)

Jan 3rd
B-Cereal or Oatmeal
L-Leftover ham soup and cheese and crackers
D-Shake and Bake Chicken ($2.75 for a pack of Gold N Plump Chicken at Target with coupon) with Cheesy Scalloped Potatoes and canned peaches

Jan 4th
B-Banana bread (bananas from freezer stash)
L-Sandwiches and fruit again
D- Tuna noodle casserole

Jan 5th
B-Cereal or Oatmeal
L-Leftover Tuna noodle casserole and fruit
D- Pesto pasta and basil vegetable medley
(I made this delicious pesto this fall with mounds of basil I had grown in my garden. I spent an afternoon triple washing the basil, and running my food processor for about 10 batches. I froze it in whatever I could find...Popsicle holders, small Tupperware, ice cube trays. I am allergic to most nuts that are used in pesto. I made my pesto with toasted almonds, basil, olive oil, garlic and added grated Parmesan cheese in the end)

Jan 6th
B-Triple chocolate chunk, whole grain, muffins
L-leftovers or sandwiches, pretzels
D-Phad Thai with rice
(I have a Sun-Bird seasoning packet I got on clearance at Target. I will get the green onion for $0.50 at Sprouts and I have all the other ingredients.)

Jan 7th
B- Grits and Eggs
L-Pizza bites and taquitos (for the kids)
D-Canned soup and grilled cheese
My mom used to make Red Devils for me as a child and I might try that. Campbell's tomato soup with cheese grated into it when hot served over toast. To be eaten with a knife and fork.

In addition to this meal plan I am sure my kids will be snacking on granola bars, apples, bananas, pretzels, popcorn and Popsicles. This is the first week and I hope I can continue as the year progresses!
